Cora Cohen (1943-2023) was an American artist known for her abstract paintings. Cohen’s work approaches the space between form and formlessness, using colorful brushstrokes to suggest movement. Each work avoids consistency and remains unique, and many paintings are known to be difficult to visually memorize. Her altered x rays, or exposed x ray film enhanced with materials like paint, were similarly well-received.

Born in New York City, Cora Cohen attended Bennington College in Vermont (1960-64 & 1970-72). Her first solo exhibition took place at the Everson Museum of Art in 1974. Public Collections of her work are currently found at Yale University, Connecticut, The Swedish State  Art Council, Stockholm, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, North Carolina, among others.
