Dennis Stock (1928-2010) was an American photographer and journalist, known for his iconic portraits of Hollywood figures. His photographs of jazz musicians like Miles Davis and Billie Holiday in the 1950s and 60s led to the publication of his book, Jazz Street, and his portrait of James Dean became one of the most reproduced photographs of the decade.

Born in New York City, Dennis Stock joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 before apprenticing to photographer Gjon Mili with Life Magazine. In 1951, Stock joined Magnum, becoming a full partner-member in 1954. Stock took on the role of president of Magnum’s film and new media division from 1969-70. His work has been exhibited worldwide in France, Germany, Italy, the United States, and Japan.
