Dennis Ashbaugh (b. 1946) is an American painter whose work was the first to utilize DNA marking patterns. Abstract themes of viruses, cloning, computers, mass surveillance, and networks appear in his large, vibrant paintings.

Born in Red Oak, Iowa, Dennis Ashbaugh studied at the University of California. A Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, Ashbaugh’s solo exhibitions have appeared at the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Seattle Art Museum, La Jolla Museum of Art, and the Americas Society.
