Polly Apfelbaum (b. 1955) is an American visual artist known for her vibrant prints, sculptures, and fabrics. She merges Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, and Minimalism to embrace geometrics, color, and elements associated with femininity. Her best known works are her hand-dyed floor fabrics, which Apfelbaum refers to as her “fallen paintings”. The installations are made of vibrant velvet fabrics arranged on the floor, marking a hybrid of painting and sculpture.

Born in Pennsylvania, Polly Apfelbaum attended the Tyler School of Art in Pennsylvania and SUNY Purchase College in New York.. After moving to New York City, she created colorful, playful installation art. Her work has been featured in nearly 60 worldwide solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions.
